Maintenance
After a month away on our rail trip to Greece in March and a couple of days in London for the Classic Boat Awards our first visit to Suffolk was 24 April this year.

Sadly, the new van can’t have a towbar fitted and having sold the Freelander we can’t take ‘Cachalette’ to events in other parts of the country . . . however, at the end of this season we enjoyed sailing on Ullswater and the Norfolk Broads.

This year, ‘Cachalot’ joined more than 30 boats and over 55 people for the East Coast OGA Summer Cruise with the planned start for the Cruise in the River Ore being Sunday 27 July, 2025.

Given our late start to the sailing season, it was good news that the Cruise started later this year. We met the Gaffers for a couple of days in the Deben and sailed down to Walton for gin-tasting at the Sailing Club.

We decided to join the OGA Rally at Southwold Sailing Club at the end of June, 2024, taking ‘Cachalette’ and the kayak.

History
Gone are the handwritten entries with signature and official stamp on broadsheet-sized manilla folded into the cloth-bound ‘blue book’. Since the 1990s the Certificate of British Registry is simply a laminated piece of A4 card, printed in plain type and renewable every five years.

Apart from entries in the Certificate of British Registry and Lloyds Register of Yachts, we know virtually nothing about ‘Cachalot’ from when she was left in the Mediterranean by the Brigadier in 1956 and 1976 when she came into the hands of Ian and Jenny Kiloh.
